About the Artist
New York - NY For its next highly anticipated show, GalleryBar will debut "Urban Realism" a new collection by famed Spanish artist Juan Manuel Pajares - his first exhibition on US soil in over 3 years. Pajares will arrive from Europe to attend the Friday, July 27, 2007 opening reception for the exhibit, taking place from 6:00 pm to 12:00 am. As a chronicle of the prominence of urban culture, this show is sure to provoke debate regarding the commonality of artistic expression.

Titled "Urban Realism" Pajares' paintings explore the emergence of contemporary culture in not only his work, but in all of our lives. The artist sees urban art as a medium that allows for the expression of social discord in a language that is universal. Although the painting's colors and composition evoke the bleak yet captivating nature of this experience, peppered throughout are positive words and slogans that foster a sense of hope. Speaking on this aspect of his collection, Pajares stated "It is our obligation to record the world as it is and I do it on canvas."

The self-taught artist is often described as a master of combining bits of iconography within space. Although represented by Galerie Thierry Veaux in Paris, France, Pajares was one of the first visual artists to work with Art For Progress - a non profit arts organization that supports emerging artists, arts education programs and provides culturally diverse art events in New York City. Pajares' last American shows were at Atelier International Art (2004) and Agora Gallery (2002).
